I am an unapologetic old book nut, but libraries are my first and dearest love.  They are cornerstones of our shared heritage, bastions of democracy, dauntless defenders of the right of free speech and the social responsibilities which accompany that right.  They are the axis around which communities revolve, and are a Mecca for self-education.  I explore all these issues and more in these pages.
